History
One of the grand old clubs of Kerry GAA, Kerins O’Rahillys are based in the town of Tralee and are one of three clubs within the town, alongside Austin Stacks and John Mitchels. Like Austin Stacks and John Mitchells, the club is named after prominent Irish republicans. In the case of Kerins O’Rahillys, they are named after two men. Michael Joseph O’Rahilly – known as ‘The O’Rahilly’ – was killed during the 1916 Rising, while Charlie Kerins was a well-known Irish republican who played for the club in the 1930s.
The Kerins O’Rahillys Club is one of the original clubs formed in Tralee dating back 100 years to the early part of the last century. Traditionally known as Strand Road we are based in the west side of Tralee town encompassing the area from Caherslee around to Ballyard.
Our main pitch is located in Strand St. since 1956. We have developed these facilities to include a top class playing pitch, fine dressing rooms, restaurant/bar area and function rooms plus parking for 100 cars.
We purchased an extra 15 acres in 1993. We have developed this land in Knocknacuig, Ballyrickard to provide extra playing/training facilities with fine dressing rooms and a large parking area, located only 400m from our main pitch.
Since 1927 Kerins O’Rahillys have competed as a club in The Senior County Championship. We are one of only two clubs in The County that have always competed on our own in Senior County Championship, and never as part of a divisional board. The club have competed in 14 senior county finals, winning 6 senior championship titles.
The Juvenile club began in the early ’70’s. We won our first Under age county Div1 championship at U14 level in 1978. The club since then has won county championship titles at every under age level. The most recent was an U21 County Championship in 2015 with Players, Jack Savage, Cormac Coffey & Cian Sayers etc.
