This morning's U10  tournament was a resounding success, captivating not just the young athletes on the field but also the parents and coaches who came to support them. With fast-paced games, a vibrant atmosphere, and plenty of smiles, the event proved to be more than just a competition—it was a celebration of community and youth sports.

Kilmacud Crokes from Dublin brought two teams and were joined by the hosts, St Pats, Ardfert, John Mitchels and Kilcummin.

The U10 Blitz format is specifically designed to keep things exciting for young players. Featuring shorter matches and smaller teams, the blitz style emphasizes constant action, ensuring that every child stays involved in the game. With games lasting just 15  minutes, there was never a dull moment. This meant more opportunities for each player to get touches on the ball, take shots, and make key defensive plays.

The 3 points awarded for a ball over the crossbar and one point  for a " goal " was widely welcomed ensuring many of the plays ended with the old style points and kicking from much further outfield than one would associate with these games.

Parents and coaches noticed that the quick, dynamic nature of the games kept the young athletes fully engaged.

The event was run with all the precision of a Swiss clock thanks to the organizers, principally juvenile chairman John O'Connor and pitch side co ordinator Declan Quill who ensured the day went off without a hitch.

The tournament was not just a hit on the field; it also scored big with parents. The blitz format’s shorter matches allowed families to enjoy several games without the commitment of a full day at the field. This structure kept things lively, with multiple games being played simultaneously, creating a lovely atmosphere.

RTE presenter Jacqui Hurley was on hand to to present certificates to all the participating teams and fulsome in her praise of  a well run and well organised event.

The post match goody bags and pizzas were a well deserved treat for all those participating.
