Since its inception in 2015, the 10K run has become a highlight of the local running calendar, drawing athletes, families, and spectators alike. What started as a modest community race has grown year after year, attracting participants from far and wide.
The first 10K in 2015 welcomed around 400 runners, primarily local enthusiasts eager to test themselves on the scenic course - the race quickly earned a reputation for being both challenging and enjoyable.
One of the hallmarks of the 10K’s success is its ability to evolve while staying true to its roots. Organizers have consistently improved the event by incorporating features like chip timing for accurate results and prize categories for different age groups, single and team events.
Meanwhile, partnerships with local charities have ensured that the race also serves a greater purpose, raising substantial funds for causes such as cancer support services.
This year’s race will be dedicated to the late Brenda O’Connell ( née Hartnett) who sadly left us over a year ago.
Brenda was never one for the limelight but it's fair to say she was unforgettable - whether you were a longtime friend or a chance acquaintance, she had an uncanny ability to make you feel like the most important person in the room.
She was generous with her time and gave freely of it, doing it in her own quiet way and never seeking recognition - she did what she did because of who she was.
For those of us who had the privilege of knowing her, the world feels a little less bright without her. But her example lives on, reminding us to slow down, to care, and to always have time for others.
So whether you're a seasoned runner or someone looking for a reason to lace up your shoes, the race promises an experience that’s as rewarding as it is inspiring.
This year’s event will take place on Sunday 26th January commencing at 11.00 am - registration is online only - click here for details.
