Kerins O’Rahillys’ Senior B team bowed out of the McElligott Cup after an eventful semi-final against Fossa B on Sunday, 20 September, with the hosts winning 4-27 to 6-15 after extra time.

Played in Fossa, the game brought a remarkable change in fortunes for our lads. Eight points behind during the first half, they fought their way back into the contest and went on to lead by six in the second half.

That response put Kerins O’Rahillys in a strong position, but there was another twist before the end. A late Fossa goal forced extra time, leaving the sides level at the end of the regulation 60 minutes.

The full-time scores were Fossa B 3-19, Kerins O’Rahillys B 5-13 — 28 points apiece after a high-scoring hour of football. Neither side had been able to secure the final place, and the contest went into an additional period.

Fossa eventually established the advantage in extra time, finishing six points ahead despite Kerins O’Rahillys adding a sixth goal to their tally. It was a disappointing outcome after such a strong recovery and a huge effort to turn the game around.
