Our opening game in this year's Tralee town league took place this afternoon at a windswept Churchill where we took on the locals. The team was largely experimental with many younger players making their debuts.
We had the benefit of the wind in the first half and enjoyed a half time lead of 3 points, 0-08 to 0-05 with some fine scores from Diarmuid O'Sullivan ( free) & Conor Hayes who was proving a real handful for the Churchill defence.
The second half was the turn of our defence to shine and this they did restricting Churchill to 4 second half points, the first not coming until the 16th minute. At that stage we had led by 6, with Barry John, Conor Hayes and Ben Hanafin very much to the fore. In this period Chucky was dominant at centre back with Jake Foley very much in control at full back.
The coup de grace was applied in the final minutes when Conor Hayes found the net after good inter play between Barry John, Ben Hanafin and Fenton Colllins.
The final score of 1-12 to 0-09 was reflective of our superiority.
