Donal Walsh Live Life Tournament
We were delighted to host this tournament which took place on Saturday last, 4th May for its second year running, with teams from all over Munster taking place in what proved a great day. The sun was out and large crowds gathered in both Ballyrickard & Strand Road. Activities began at 11am and before the ball was thrown in, the boys had a mental fitness interactive workshop facilitated by Dr Susan Lawlor, giving them all a positive mental attitude, as the importance of maintaining good mental health was the key message. Both Alma & Fionbarr Walsh gave a speech to start the day off with positivity.
The Kerins O’Rahillys’ U15 boys played John Mitchels in their first game and came out comprehensive winners. In their second game they overcame Fr Casey’s of Abbeyfeale, putting them automatically into the semi’s. They also came out winners against Austin Stacks in their third group game.
They met Ardfert in the semi -which they won, easing them into a final against Laune Rangers, in which the boys in blue had a blistering start and triumphed by two points to win the tournament for a second year in a row. The cup and medals were presented by Kerry county player and O’Rahilly’s clubman, Gavin O Brien. Man of the match was Ben Hanafin and Player of the tournament went to Dara O’Connor.
It was a great day and please God it will get bigger and better each year to help carry the memory and the positive message of a great young person in Donal Walsh.
The Academy was in full swing Ballyrickard at 11am on Sunday morning last. The sun was shining and a big crowd gathered to watch the children train. Everyone is doing great and showing great skills as the coaches work hard on improvement each week. The parents as always enjoyed a cuppa with some delicious home baking.

Our under 12s played their final Phase 1 County League game on Sunday versus Castleisland Desmonds. A blistering first half display by O’Rahillys left the result in no doubt with goals from Jamie, Brayden (2), Nick and Daniel McCarthy. An injured Jamie McCarthy went in goals for us with Evan Daly performing well outfield in the second half. Brayden Pierce added five points to his two goals in a man of the match performance. Final score 5-17 to 1-3. Phase 2 will begin in the next few weeks.
We travelled to West Kerry to play Dingle in our final game of the County league on Wednesday last. Conditions for the game were ideal although with a slight breeze favouring the home side at throw in. It was Dingle who gained the early advantage when a speculative shot for a point dipped under the crossbar to raise the green flag. Dingle, having got the early advantage grew in confidence and were moving the ball around the field well. O’Rahillys were missing a few of our scoring forwards and were struggling to maintain possession once we got into the final third, leaving the score at half time 2-04 to 0-1 to Dingle.
The backs, Seamus Cahill, Daniel Anieke, Brendan Meehan, Josh Hoare, Cian Moran and Jake Foley (0-1) tried hard and with Tomas Kennedy( 0-1) and Ryan Houlihan battling away in the middle, the forwards Ruairi Kennedy, Conor Cronin, Cian Lync, Nick Lace, Brayden Pierce and Cillian Hussey (0-2) did their best and didn’t give up until the final whistle. Final score Dingle 3-6 KO’R 0-4.
