Our under 12s brought the curtin down in style by winning the central region division 4 on Tuesday evening. On our last outing of the year we knew victory would ensure top of the table having won all previous games in the league. We started brightly and a free flowing move allowed midfielder Brayden to rattle the back of the net for the opening goal. All four forwards of Jamie, Evan, Brendàn and Ruarì were working very well to create chances and Nick powered through from midfield to add two points. Nick would again pop up to score an excellent goal. Keel rallied to score a fantastic long range goal and add three points while points from Brendàn (2), Daniel McCarthy (2), Jamie, Ruarì, Ryan, Jude and Calum Lacey pushed us into a massive lead. Another goal from Keel with the last kick of the first half left the score at 3-11 to 2-3 at half time.
Multiple changes and positional switches were made at half time. Daniel Aneke and Jude Lacey made debuts in goals in the second half and Sean Mahony vacated his usual corner back slot to move to the forwards, winning lots of ball and popping over and excellent point. Jamie would add 1-3 to bring his tally to 2-6 for the day. Keel continued to battle and although Cillian McGrath and Ciaran Griffin held the fort, they added 1-3 In the second half. Ruarì, Evan and Jude finished off the day with points to leave the final score 5-20 to 3-6. A just reward for a great team finishing the year with a central region win.
Captain and Man of the Match: Nick Lacey
Top Scorer: Jamie McCarthy 2-6
Many thanks to all parents for supporting the team since our first game on February 23rd and throughout the summer. We will be in contact to get the kids together for some fun and we will have an awards night later in the year.
Congratulations to the boys on a great win and a fantastic year. They are a great bunch with a bright future.
