Hectic week for the Academy!

30th April 2018 By Kerins O'Rahilly's PRO

A glorious sun shiny morning  in Ballyrickard with  big crowd. The U8/U10 Girls hosted Churchill. They played a challenge match. Both sides were strong and a great display of football skills on display by all the girls involved. Well done to their coaches.
All the parents watched on, chatting & sipping a fresh cuppa in the warm sunshine on the Cliff along with some tasty bites.
The U8/U10 boys trained on the top fields under the watchful eyes of their coaches as they taught  them the skills of the game.
Thanks to all the Coaches who work so hard  with all the Children each week.
All the children received an individual folder from their coaches to practice the Skills of GAA.
A new Skill will be added to practice on each week.
To start with, it’s the Punt Kick this week so happy practicing to everyone and have a fun week.
Congratulations to the Players of the week

U10’s Go Games Commenced Wednesday last the 25th april 2018 in Ballyrickard
It was a damp evening however it didn’t dampen the spirits of all involved. There was a good crowd gathered in Ballyrickard. There was some great games of football to watch by all who braved the elements. A credit to the children and their coaches.
U8’s Go Games will kick off this Thursday the 3rd May2018 in Ballyrickard at 6.30pm.
U12’s A&B Teams played at home to an Ghaeltacht this evening in Ballyrickard at 6pm.
The A Team had a strong physical game against a strong Gaeltacht team. There was some outstanding scores and some hard physical tackles on the boys from the west during the match. Kor was down by 6 points at half time but they never gave up the fight to win . They came out with fire in the opening of the 2nd half  and scored some fantastic points and and that ate into the Gaeltacht’s lead with goals rattling the back of the net on both sides. It was a  tight game to the end but KoR coming out on top and winning by a single point. Final Score KoR 5-11 to An Ghaeltacht 4-13.
The B Team put in a great performance against a fighting Gaeltacht team. They showed great skills and worked hard and were on top of the game from start to finish, winning comfortably in the end on a margin of 9 points.
Final score KoR 5-08 to An Ghaeltacht 3-05
Both U 12 A&B Teams are out again Tuesday evening the 1st May 2018 at home to Moyvane at 6.30pm
U14’s B Team played away against Miltown Castlemaine . They played very well, It was their best performance this year. There was a great display of football by all players involved yet they were defeated by a marginally stronger Miltown Castlemaine side.

Miltown Castlemaine 3-12
U14’s B Team at home Wednesday the 2nd may 2018  to Legion in Ballyrickard at 7pm.
U16’s played at home to ardfert Monday last the 23rd April at 7pm
Our U16’s had their 2nd win of the season after a tough battle with a physically strong Ardfert side.We started brightly with points from Sam McCarthy, Conor O’Sullivan and a terrific solo goal from TJ McMahon. KoR led at half time by 2points. Ardfert started brighter than KoR in the opening of the 2nd half and soon the sides were level. From then on it was nip and tuck right to the end. We were thrown a life line midway through the half , when we were awarded a penalty after a foul on Sam McCarthy which was converted by Conor O’Sullivan. Excellent defending by Samuel,Jerome, Enis and Stephen Nix which kept Ardfert at bay and KoR hung on for a 1 point victory .
Final Score KoR 2-08
                 Ardfert 1-11
U16’s are out again tomorrow evening Monday the 30th April 2018 away to Churchill a 7pm

U-14:

Kerins O’Rahillys – 5-09
Killarney Legion 0-07
A big win away from home sets up an interesting few weeks with two home games to go in the league – we started slowly and were level on two points each after Darragh O’Connor and Tomás Kennedy were on target; once we had our first goal through Danny Hennessy he was quickly followed by Darragh, Tomás and Jack Savage in finding the net, and with the half time score @ 4-05 to 0-02 there was always only going to be one result. We continued on the front foot in the 2nd half with another goal from Darragh and points from Danny, Tomás and Eric McMahon to run out deserving winners – 5-09 to 0-07. This was a fine outing with all players contributing from Thomas Maguire through to Tomás Kennedy, playing very direct football ensuring we fed quick ball to our inside forward line who contributed 3-06 in total.Special mention to Jack Savage who earlier today won a Russell Cup medal playing wing forward for the Green and notching two points and turning in another fine display tonight – also to TJ Heaphy who was a squad member today.

We next play Ballymacelligott in the penultimate round of the county league this coming Weds night 2nd May at home in Strand Road.
