JP O’Sullivan Park was the venue tonight for our Féile group where we were paired alongside division 1 sides, hosts Laune Rangers and Kilcummin.
We played Kilcummin in our first game and from the off were the better side with great play from our mid-fielders, Jack Savage and Seán Healy who supplied a steady stream of ball to our forwards who were quick to convert their opportunities into scores.
Tomás Kennedy had our opening score which was followed by a Seán Healy goal and a Ben O’Brien point to leave us 1-02 to nil ahead inside the opening minutes; soon after, Danny Hennessy found the target from a free and this was followed by a great score from Jack Savage from distance. Danny added another after a foul on Darragh O’Connor and then Sean Healy powered through from midfield for a fine goal – 2-05 to nil at half time.
The second half saw us add further points from Danny (2) before Ben Hanafin, up from defence, fired in a shot which ended up in the net for a capital goal – Kilcummin, tired after their first round defeat to Laune Rangers did eventually get on the score sheet but it made little difference to the final outcome.
The 2nd game vs the hosts Laune Rangers was the acid test but we faced a bigger side physically who dominated the early exchanges hitting us for 3 goals which effectively killed off the game as a contest – they led 3-04 to 0-02 at the break, Danny with two pointed frees and though we matched them in the second half with both sides scoring 2 points each, it was not to be and Laune progressed to the semi finals next weekend.
Great credit is due to all the players who gave their all and to Barry, Ger & Shane for their time and effort.
