Seniors:
In a game that never rose above the ordinary, we were too good for John Mitchels on Sunday morning in the town championship semi final on a final score line of 2-09 to 0-07.
The first half ended on a score line of 1-04 to 0-01 which characterised the poor fare on show with the only score from play coming in the 30th minute when Barry John found space and slotted over – prior to this Jack Savage accounted for all of our total with 3 points from placed balls ( one a “45”) and a goal from a penalty in the 11th minute for a foul on Tommy Walsh – in between we were guilty of some poor misses along with a no of dropped shots into the grateful arms of the Boherbuí keeper who themselves found it difficult to make any openings, their only score coming in the 17th minute from the boot of Niall Sheehy from a free.
The second half was somewhat better though as we upped the ante notching 1-03 in the opening 10 minutes without a response – the points came from Jack from two frees and a goal in the 7th minute from Gavin O’Brien who burst through and fired low to the net – this was quickly followed by Tommy’s point from play which effectively finished off the game and from here to the finish we traded scores to run out comfortable winners at the final whistle.
Our next game sees us play Dingle in the final round of the county league next Sunday (19th) in Strand Road with a throw in time of 13.00 – this is in line with all other games as there are still some issues to be resolved around relegation and qualification for the league final. For us, its effectively a league semi final where a win or draw will see us take on Dr Crokes in the league final at a future date – it will also provide much needed preparation for our county championship game vs Feale Rangers on Sept 1st.
