Seniors:
By finishing in 2nd place on 15 points ( 7 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw) we have qualified for our first senior league final since 2013 when David Moran’s long distance free was enough to edge out Austin Stacks.
As Dr Crokes finished first on 21 points ( their opening day draw with Glenbeigh/Glencar their only point dropped), they will have home advantage in the final on a date to be determined by the county board – well done to the team and management who gave a great commitment since the beginning of the year and they now have a final to look forward to.
Senior County Championship:
Attention now turns to the senior county championship and our first round game vs Feale Rangers which will be played in Listowel on Sat 1st Sept @ 17.30 – hopes will be high after last year’s run to the semi final but there are no easy games at any stage and a trip North is always a difficult one – no doubt training will have an extra edge to it over the next few weeks as players try to earn a starting spot.
Coiste Trá Lí Junior league:
A great win last week for the juniors who overcame John Mitchels in Healy Park on a final score line of 3-15 to 0-13. They are in pole position now for a semi final place following their win over Austin Stacks the previous week.
The format for the county junior cups has been changed this year with the Molyneaux & McElligott cups being amalgamated as follows:
A pool of 8 teams have been entered with opening games next Friday night 24th August – we have been drawn away to Beaufort and if successful will advance to the knockout stages of the Molyneaux cup – if defeated we will then compete in the McElligott cup – games will take place on consecutive Friday evenings to the 21st Sept ( our B team will compete in this competition)
The Cahill Cup will see Charlie Kerins in action again on this Friday night ( 24th) when we entertain Castleisland Desmonds at home where throw in is @ 6.45
Lotto:
There were great celebrations in Ballyseedy last Tuesday when news filtered through that Rian Moynihan had successfully matched 4 numbers in our lotto draw, scooping the jackpot of €5,300 – the winning numbers were: 7, 13, 18 & 28 – Betty Tobin matched 3 and wins €25. Congrats Rian, well done.
The five entrants for the special December draw are as follows: Josie O’Sullivan, Lorna Griffin, Mary Foley, Paul O’Sullivan ( Kildare) and John Gleasure. Tickets from the usual outlets – next week’s jackpot will now begin @ €2,000.
Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is passed to the relatives and friends of Seán Patrick Moran who passed away during the week – ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
