Tommy Walsh Profile

Tommy Walsh

Imposing midfielder

It’s great to see Tommy back in Strand Road after his sojourn with Aussie Rules where he spent 5 years initially in St Kilda and the with Sydney Swans. Tommy was an outstanding under age player who for club and county and part of our winning minor county championship team of 2006.
It was here he was spotted by the county minor selectors who gave him his debut vs Clare in 2005 and then in 2006 he starred at mid field for the county in their unsuccessful bid for All Ireland glory when losing out in a replayed final to Roscommon. He was on every one’s radar at this stage and played with the county U-21s in 2007 when Kerry fell at the first hurdle to Clare.
However, accompanied by club mates David Moran and Gavin Duffy he gained an All Ireland medal in 2008 when Kerry annexed the title at the expense of Kildare in Thurles. His graduation to the senior county side was a formality and he gained his first Celtic Cross in 2009 when he was also named the Young Player of the Year.
His skills were not going unnoticed down under though and when St Kilda came calling in 2010 the lure of playing sport professionally was too great and he made the big move to Australia. Dogged by injuries during his five years there he returned to his beloved Strand Rd in 2014 and has been a source of inspiration within the club ever since.
Tommy continues to shine for the senior side, be it at mid field or full forward and his enthusiasm and professional approach is an example to all.
