Tralee Town Board Senior League
Ballymacelligott 2-13 Kerins O’Rahillys 1-13
Our Senior team travelled to Ballymac on Sunday last to take on the home side in Round Three of the Town League. We started well in fine dry conditions and Jack Savage opened our account in the second minute from a pointed free. Gearóid Dillane took a knock in the build-up and had to be replaced shortly afterwards by Daniel Nix. The teams then exchanged points from play before Gearóid Savage pointed and then Tom Hoare got on the end of a fine move to fist to the net to put O’Rahillys 1-3 to 0-1 in front. Jack Savage pointed from play to extend the Blues’ advantage but Ballymac answered with pointed free before a fine save from Shane Foley on 19 minutes maintained the five-point gap. However, only a minute later, the home side goaled from play and quickly added a point to narrow the gap to the minimum. A fisted effort from Sean Walsh then drew a fine save from Ballymac’s keeper, but another pointed free from Jack Savage meant that the town side went into the half time interval 1-5 to 1-3 in front.
Showery conditions persisted at the start of the second half and O’Rahillys introduced Rory Molloy at left half forward. Nevertheless, Ballymac were undeterred and again reduced the margin to one point after two minutes. Back came Strand Road with the Savage brothers raising a white flag each to leave a goal between the sides – but almost immediately the home side swept downfield and goaled to level matters again despite the best efforts of Shane Foley who got a hand to the shot. Ballymac 2-4, O’Rahilllys 1-7. The pendulum then swung back in Strand Road’s favour, mainly through the efforts of Gearóid Savage who pointed from 30 metres and repeated that feat when placed by Rory O’Connor from the resultant kickout. Undaunted, Ballymac kicked two minors within the next three minutes to level matters once more. Gearóid Savage restored O’Rahillys advantage from the 13-metre line, but Ballymac did likewise and then won the following kickout to edge in front by a point. They doubled their advantage when they intercepted as Strand Road tried to work a short kickout, but over the next seven minutes, three pointed frees from Jack Savage saw O’Rahillys edge one point in front, 1-13 to Ballymac’s 2-9. That proved to be the Blues last score however as a strong finish from Ballymac saw them level within two minutes and then three points from play in the final two minutes sealed the victory for the home side after a well contested game.
