Our U-14s advanced to the Coiste Trá Lí league final when accounting for Na Gaeil on a final score line of 4-11 to 1-07 in a game played in Healy Park tonight.
Aided by the strong wind in the first half we were quickly into our stride, raising white flags through Ben O’Brien, Danny Hennessy, Jack Savage and Darragh O’Connor before Na Gaeil replied with two points of their own, all this after 15 minutes. Danny nudged us further ahead shortly afterwards and then the goal that we threatened on a few occasions arrived via Joe O’Sullivan after good inter passing between Gearóid Meehan and TJ Heaphy – Joe followed this quickly with a point and suddenly we were seven clear 1-06 to 0-02. As we approached half time, Darragh O’Connor fed Danny Hennessy and he found the net with a low drive – half time arrived and we had a nine point lead, 2-06 to 0-03.
The second half saw us pile on the pressure and a lovely goal from Tomás Kennedy on 6 minutes pushed us further clear – from here until the final whistle we added good scores from Jack Savage, Joe O’Sullivan and a goal from Ben O’Brien whilst restricting Na Gaeil to some late scores to leave us convincing winners in the end.
This was a fine team effort overall given the absences of Jake Foley, Tom Flavin, Seán Healy and Ben Hanafin and we look forward to the final against our old rivals Austin Stacks on a date to be determined.
