On Sat night last ( 7th) we played Austin Stacks in the town league final in Caherslee pitch. We started slowly, allowing our opponents to build up a four point lead early in the game and were dealt a huge blow shortly after when referee Seamus Mulvhihill deemed a foul on Stacks players Donncha Sayers merited a red card which seemed a harsh decision at the time.
Though this was a big blow, it seemed to spur our lads on with goals following from Ben O’Brien, Darragh O’Connor and Tomás Kennedy along with some great point scoring; we continued to dominate the second half with some great fetches in the middle of the pitch from Jack Savage and Seán Healy and hard as though Stacks tried there was no way back as we continued to rack up the scores to run out convincing winners on a final score line of 5-18 to 2-13.
All players played their part in this fine win but special mention to the four members of the North Kerry development squad, Darragh O’Connor, Jack Savage, Eric McMahon & TJ Heaphy who lined out following a day long trip to Dungarvan and contributed enormously to this victory.
Team: Thomas Maguire, Cormac Gallagher, Matthew Higgins, Jake Foley, Ben Hanafin, Eric McMahon, TJ Heaphy, Jack Savage, Seán Healy, Gearóid Meehan, Danny Hennessy, Cian Moran, Darragh O’Connor, Ben O’Brien, Tomás Kennedy.
Subs used: Rory O’Halloran, Joe O’Sullivan, Josh Quirke, Seán Murphy, Conall Foley & Damien Cronin.
Well done to all on a great win.
There was little time to rest on our laurels however as we travelled to Killorglin on Monday night to take on the locals in the Kellihers Toyota sponsored Central League. This was a great game and though we lead early on Laune fought back scoring a goal to be only one point in arrears at half time. However, we soon settled into our rhythm and with TJ outstanding at centre back, showing real leadership we took the game to the opposition adding some great scores; Darragh O’Connor was on fire up front and finished with a personal tally of 4-04 to leave us comfortable winners on a final score line of 5-19 to 3-11.
Great credit is due to the lads and also Barry & Ger for producing back to back wins against formidable opposition – well done to all.
The team lined out the same as the town league final with Joe O’Sullivan and Seán Collins coming in as substitutes.
