U-17 Competition

31st May 2018 By Kerins O'Rahilly's PRO

We travelled to JP O’Sullivan Park on Monday night last  for the second round of the special U-17 competition where we played hosts Laune Rangers and Firies – this was a big ask of the lads as Laune Rangers are currently division 1 minor county  champions and Firies have been performing well at U-16 and minor recently.

In the opening game we played the hosts and it proved to be a real  roller-coaster with the lead changing hands from minute to minute – we eventually lost by two points having lead by one in the dying moments of the game but a goal with the last play ensured victory for the Killorglin side.

We then faced Firies and similar to the first game it was nip and tuck all the way, and though we lead by 3 points with a few minutes left, Firies finished the stronger and won eventually by four points.

Despite the two losses, we now face into a division 2 semi final on this coming Friday night 1st June when we play Churchill in John Mitchels @ 6.45; should we win this game we will then play the winners of the other semi final, Na Gaeil vs Milltown /Castlemaine @ 7.55; in the event that we lose to Churchill we will play off for 3rd place with the other losing semi finalist.

We would like to thank Mazie & Paul Ryan for their efforts with this squad and wish them and the lads all the best against Churchill – also kudos to the county board for their initiative in running this tournament which has been a great success.
