Weekly Club Notes to 3rd March

4th March 2019 By Ger O'Brien

SENIORS

Following our drawn Town League clash with John Mitchels the previous week, our Senior squad had a very worthwhile practice match versus the same opposition on Saturday evening last at the John Mitchels complex.  It turned out to be another well contested game with Kerins O’Rahillys emerging victorious by a nine-point margin.  In truth though, the result was unimportant here as both team managements used the occasion to try out the extended panels.  For Strand Road, Gearóid Savage was impressive, taking some fine scores in both halves.  Sean Collins and Donagh O’Brien in defence, along with Gearóid Dillane in the forwards all featured prominently.  Sean Walsh also made his mark in attack before injury cut his day short.  In the second period, when we played into the elements, Kieran Mangan in defence, Tom Hoare at midfield and Rob O’Connor in the half forward line were to the fore for O’Rahillys.  Thanks again to John Mitchels for hosting this challenge game which will surely benefit both clubs as they face into their respective Credit Union Co League programmes.

Coiste Chontae Chiarraí Fixtures, Sunday 10th March

Credit Union SFL Div 1

Kerins O`Rahilly’s v Na Gaeil @ 3pm

This is an historic occasion as Na Gaeil are making their debut in Division 1.  Despite mixed results in the Town League, the Strand Road management team are satisfied with preparations as there has been a concentration on fitness work to date.  It is hoped that both teams will field as near to full strength as possible.  Na Gaeil are sure to bring a big crowd and we are hopeful that the Kerins O’Rahillys faithful will at least match those numbers.

Credit Union SFL Div 5 Group A

Kerins O’Rahillys B v Kenmare Shamrocks B @ 1.30pm

Strand Road supporters can also take in the B squad’s game prior to the main event on Sunday next.  There have been strong attendances at training to date, with a number of younger players showing promise and pushing to make the senior team.  This is a chance for supporters to check their progress and all support is most welcome.

Cúinne na nÓg

The Juvenile Academy never went ahead due to the weather on Sunday last, 3rd March.  Therefore, it will now take to the outdoors next Sunday, 10th March in Ballyrickard at 11am.

All new members welcome. Registration will take place on Sunday next if you haven’t already done so.  Hope to see you all there.

The U12s deferred match against Stacks B took place last Monday evening in Caherslee at 7pm

(Report from Ed Lacey Coach)

The first game of the year ended in a comprehensive win for the under 12s vs Austin Stacks B Team in Caherslee.  Jamie McCarthy ended the match as top scorer with 1-8. The other goal scorers on the night were Brayden Pierce, Ciaran Griffin, Jude Lacey and Nick Lacey.  This was an excellent team performance with Brendan Meehan, Rory Kennedy, Oisin Cronin and Evan Daly excelling.  Next game in the town league is against Churchill next Saturday.  Man of the Match: Jamie McCarthy.

The U12s were due to play Churchill in the town League away on Saturday last, 2nd March, but yet again the weather caused a cancellation.  Rescheduled date TBC.  The U12s are away to Ardfert next Saturday, 9th March at 3pm

The U14s match V Stacks B this Saturday was cancelled due to the weather.  Next date for same TBC.  The U14’s will play away to John Mitchels in the town league next Sunday at 11am.

Training for U12/U14 & U16s continues as normal.

LADIES NOTES

U12 GIRLS

Unfortunately everything came to a standstill on Sunday because of inclement weather. Texts will be sent about training times and game.

U14 GIRLS

We had some very disappointed girls on Sunday when they heard that round 1 of the Co. League was postponed because of the adverse weather conditions. This game will be rescheduled for a later date by the Co. Board. In round 2 we are away to Castleisland Desmonds next Sunday, March 10th.

Training continues in Ballyrickard on Tuesday and Thursday from 5p.m. – 6.15p.m.

U16 GIRLS

Last week the girls had a great training session on the astroturf in the sports complex. We had a very positive feedback from the team. They found the session to be stimulating, challenging, fun and of great benefit to them. Well done to our coaches.  The girls are looking forward to seeing what’s in store for them at this week’s training. We are going well with great numbers and there’s always room for more.

Sunday’s training had to be cancelled because of the weather.

MINOR AND JUNIOR LADIES

Sunday’s training was called off because of the wintry showers. Training continues again on Wednesday at 8p.m. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

We would like to welcome Wiktoria who joined us last Wednesday. We hope that you will have many years of enjoyment playing with us.

REGISTRATION

Reminder girls: registration money is now due. Forms are available at training.

RECRUITMENT

We continue to recruit. Remember it’s never too late to start playing. Football is a great sport to stay fit and healthy as well as making great friends. We have fun days out during the year. For further details text or phone Shirley (086) 8713552.

LGFA NATIONAL CONGRESS

Killarney was the venue for this year’s LGFA National Congress. Congrats to the Kerry Ladies Co. Board for making it a success from start to finish and for all of the hard work they put in to make it successful.

SNIPPETS from “top of the right”

  • Well done to Tommy Walsh, who converted three offensive marks in a personal tally of 0-4 in Kerry’s four-point victory over Monaghan on Sunday last.
  • Gavin O’Brien also played his part as The Kingdom continued their unbeaten National League run and now need one point from their remaining two games versus Mayo and Roscommon to reach the National League final.
  • All at Kerins O’Rahillys would like to wish staunch supporter, Sgt John O’Mahony, a long and happy retirement after close on 40 year’s service to An Garda Síochána.
  • The club also wishes a happy 21st birthday to current members Karl Mullins and Keelan Crowe, both of whom have been with us all the way through the juvenile ranks.

CONDOLENCES

The club wishes to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Cornelius (Con) Ronan of Strand Street, Tralee. RIP.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
