County League Div 5, Group A:
Valentia 4-20 Kerins O’Rahillys 3-08
We travelled to Valentia for our second outing in this group and left pointless despite some good moments and some decent performances from a no of players.
We started brightly with good points from Shane McElligott (2) which had us level after 10 minutes and when Johnny Keane goaled on 12 minutes we were in the driving seat – further scores from Shane McElligott and Rory Molloy pushed us further ahead but then the home side took over and racked up a total of 1-05 to a penalty goal from Johnny Keane to leave the half time score @ 2-07 to 2-04. Valentia maintained their momentum for the second half and effectively killed off the game when notching 1-02 without reply on the resumption – after that, we tried our best to gain a foothold in the game but a succession of scores from the home side left us with far too much to do. Donagh O’Brien with a goal and Shane Flavin with two points kept the score board ticking over but it was too little too late. We next play Churchill in our back game which has been provisionally fixed for May bank holiday weekend.
Team: Shane Foley, Kieran Mangan, Jason O’Leary, Rob O’Connor, Rory O’Connor, Thomas McGrath, Darragh McElligott, Tom Hoare (0-01), Rory Molloy ( 0-02), Donagh O’Brien ( 1-0), Johnny Keane (2-0), Gearóid Hartnett, Shane Flavin ( 0-02), James O’Connor, Shane McElligott ( 0-03).
Our minors went down to Listowel Emmets on Friday night last ( 20th) on a final score line of 4-12 to 4-07; we competed well for the majority of the game but just came up short in the end – Conor O’Sullivan was our outstanding performer with a hat trick of goals.
Allianz Cumann na mBunscol:
The annual schools finals took place on Thursday last in Austin Stack Park and in the boys competition, Balloonagh NS were the overall winners when defeating Knockanes in the final – congratulations go to Tomás Kennedy, Niall McMahon and Adam Evans who were part of the winning squad; Adam was unable to take part in the final due to injury but our other two boys left their mark on the game with Tomás bagging four goals in a memorable display. Well done boys, a great achievement,
The Kerry minors made a successful start to their defence of Munster and All Ireland titles when defeating Tipperary in Semple Stadium last week on a final score line of 1-15 to 0-04. Greater tests lie ahead and none more so than when Cork visit Austin Stack Park on Weds 8th May for the provincial semi final – this is a winner take all game with the losers exiting the championship. The game is timed to throw in @ 19.00
