Seniors:
No playing activity this week and after the efforts of the past 4 weeks, players and management had a week off to recharge the batteries! Training resumes next Weds night ( 2nd May) with upcoming league fixtures vs Killarney Legion ( 12/05 away) and John Mitchels ( 26/05 home) in the pipeline. We lie joint second in the league table with Dr Crokes on 5 points, separated only by points difference.
Division 5, Group A:
We are at home to Churchill on Sat evening next 5th May with throw in @ 19.00 – this will be a tough game for the lads given the fine form of Churchill this year so your support would be greatly appreciated.
Minors:
We played Na Gaeil on Friday night last in Strand Road in a round of Coiste Trá Lí league and after a very encouraging performance lost out by the minimum, 1-19 to 3-12. This was a good outing with a young side many of whom will have learned from the experience and which will stand them in good stead for the road ahead.
We were competitive around the middle where Aidan Mangan was ably assisted by Seán Duggan and our forwards kept the Na Gaeil backs on their toes with their clever lines of running and good finishing, We trailed at half time, 1-10 to 2-04 ( goals from Conor Hayes and Conor O’Sullivan) and though conceding points on the resumption kept in touch through scores from Darragh Fitzgerald and the outstanding Conor O’ Sullivan who threatened danger when in possession. Conor (4) and Darragh Fitzgerald had us only three points adrift entering the final minutes and then Daniel Bowler gaining possession worked his way in to the square to fire past the keeper to level matters; Na Gaeil tacked on two points but we were equal to the task and levelled again by the 30th minute – then a harsh call by the referee saw Na Gaeil gain a free and when they worked the ball up field they gained the winning score.
Team: Joe Hanafin, Rian McLysaght, Barry Foley, Seán Murphy, Brian O’Dowd, Gerard Dunne, Jordan Foley, Seán Duggan, Aidan Mangan, Darragh Fitzgerald ( 0-03), Gavin Burrows (0-01), Conor O’Sullivan ( 1-09), Stephen Nix, Daniel Bowler ( 1-0), Conor Hayes ( 1-00)
