Senior Football County League Division 1 Kerins O'Rahillys 2-14 (20) | Dr Crokes 2-13 (19)

Kerins O'Rahillys pulled off a stirring second-half comeback in teeming rain at Lewis Road on Saturday evening, overturning a six point half-time deficit to defeat Dr Crokes by a single point in a thrilling encounter.

The heavy conditions made life difficult from the throw-in, with early turnovers a feature for both sides. Despite getting plenty of early possession, the Blues struggled to progress through the lines. Shane McElligott opened our account early, but the home side kept the scoreboard ticking. Tom Hoare grew increasingly dominant around the middle and was unlucky not to win a penalty after shipping a heavy challenge. Shortly after, Darragh O’Connor squirmed out of the backs' clutches, only to see his goal-bound effort saved by Bryan O’Shea.

A great move starting from a Con Barrett kickout flowed through Barry John Keane and Tom Hoare before Conor Hayes slotted over, but Dr Crokes finished the half stronger. Cian McMahon slalomed through the Strand Road rearguard for a fine goal, leaving us trailing 1-8 to 0-5 at the break.

The second half started ominously as McMahon punished an early foul with a two-pointer from outside the arc. However, the Narries dug incredibly deep. Ben O’Brien rose to claim a massive kickout, feeding Darragh O'Connor for a point that sparked the revival.

The turning point came when Strand Road put immense pressure on the Crokes kickout, winning four in a row with Jake Foley instrumental in the squeeze. From one of these, Ben Hanafin played a sublime crossfield ball to Barry John Keane, who stitched it into the bottom corner from way out. Just two minutes later, a high turnover from the forwards led to quick interplay between Hayes, Keane, and O'Connor, culminating in Darragh finding the bottom corner of the net.

Suddenly, Strand Road had all the momentum. Tom Hoare repeatedly punched holes through the defense to win frees, which Darragh reliably converted. Conor Hayes, electric all evening, streaked from the middle to slot us into the lead.

The closing stages were tense. Both sides saw black and yellow cards after an altercation, reducing the numbers on the field. Con Barrett pulled off a monumental save to deny a Crokes goal that would have levelled the game. While the home side did manage to bundle in a wickedly deflected goal in the 64th minute, Kerins O'Rahillys showed good composure to hold on for a famous 2-14 to 2-13 victory.
